Sunshine Coast Council is seeking a dynamic and commercially astute Chief Financial Officer (CFO) to lead its financial, procurement, property and commercial functions. This is the first true CFO role in a Queensland local government, reporting directly to the CEO and operating at Director level.
With a billion-dollar budget and a rapidly growing population set to exceed 500,000 by 2032, Sunshine Coast Council is at a pivotal moment. The CFO will play a critical role in ensuring financial sustainability while driving commercial innovation, investment partnerships and new revenue streams to support long-term economic growth.
Key Responsibilities:
Strategic Financial Leadership – Oversee financial management, budgeting and long-term sustainability.
Commercialisation & Investment – Identify new revenue opportunities and forge partnerships to enhance financial resilience.
Procurement & Property – Lead strategic procurement and property management, ensuring value for money and commercial returns.
Stakeholder Engagement – Work closely with the CEO, Councillors and external agencies, simplifying complex financial matters for diverse audiences.
Governance & Risk – Uphold strong financial governance, ensuring compliance and financial integrity.
Who We’re Looking For:
This role demands a highly capable and influential leader with experience in local or state government, treasury or complex financial leadership. Key attributes include:
Proven ability to develop and execute financial and commercial strategies.
Strong stakeholder engagement and communication skills, particularly with non-financial audiences.
A track record in leading large-scale financial operations and driving commercial outcomes.
Experience in investment partnerships, procurement strategy and financial governance.
