Mount Isa City Council is seeking an experienced and strategic professional to lead its corporate services portfolio during a period of significant economic change. As the city faces changes brought on by the scheduled closure of the Mount Isa Mining operation, this role presents a rare opportunity to guide the council through a carefully managed transition, ensuring financial stability while realigning services to meet the evolving needs of the community.
This is an exciting and complex challenge, requiring a leader who can balance financial discipline with community-focused decision-making. The successful candidate will oversee finance, human resources, customer service and IT, driving efficiencies, ensuring compliance and supporting the council’s long-term sustainability.

Key Responsibilities:

• Lead the council’s financial and corporate services strategy, ensuring fiscal sustainability in response to economic shifts

• Manage the careful downscaling of council operations to align with long-term financial and community needs

• Implement efficiencies and service optimisation strategies while maintaining essential community services

• Provide clear financial and strategic advice to the CEO and Councillors, supporting informed decision-making

• Foster a high-performance culture, guiding a diverse team through change and uncertainty

• Engage effectively with internal and external stakeholders, ensuring transparency and accountability

Ideal Candidate:

Mount Isa City Council seeks a resilient and forward-thinking leader with strong financial and corporate services management experience, preferably within local government. The successful candidate will have excellent stakeholder engagement skills, a strategic vision for managed organisational transition, and the ability to make tough yet community focused decisions.

Qualifications and Experience:

• Tertiary qualification in Accounting, Business or Commerce

• CPA/CA preferred with senior leadership experience in corporate services

• Proven expertise in financial management, strategic planning and governance

• Strong analytical and problem-solving skills with a focus on operational excellence
