The City of Gold Coast is changing. A sweeping reform is underway as it transforms into a modern, globally connected city in one of the fastest-growing regions in Australia. The City is seeking a highly strategic and experienced Chief Risk and Audit Officer to be a significant contributor to the council's change project.
The Chief Risk and Audit Officer is responsible for leading and managing the delivery of risk and compliance services including the City's internal audit and cyber security obligations. The role will manage a branch of approximately 40 staff and report to the Executive General Manager Strategy, People and Performance.
Key responsibilities:
Provide strategic advice to the Chief Executive Officer, Audit and Risk Committee and the Executive Leadership Team on risk and internal audit matters.
Lead the strategic direction of the branch with a focus on risk management, internal audit and cyber security services.
Engage with internal and external stakeholders to ensure effective service delivery.
Deliver and maintain systems and processes for planning, delivery, measurement, reporting, risk management and governance.
Develop and implement internal audit plans, business continuity and crisis management plans that align with the City of Gold Coast's strategic and operational plans.
Review and oversee internal audit projects across the organisation's operations.
Manage human resources and financial management of the Branch.
The ideal candidate will have experience in a similar role within a large and complex organisation. They will possess current knowledge of professional standards governing internal audit practices, as well as significant strategic planning, budgeting and problem-solving skills to solve complex audit, risk and cyber security matters, devising strategies to minimise organisational risk. The ability to confidently communicate, negotiate and influence both internal and external stakeholders in a changing environment will be critical to this role. Bachelor Qualifications in Business Management or Accounting will be highly regarded as well as post graduate qualifications in Internal Audit.
