We are now seeking an exceptional General Manager Conservation to lead strategic environmental initiatives that ensure a sustainable future for the Gold Coast.
Reporting to the Executive General Manager of Environment, Heritage and Resilience, the General Manager Conservation will lead a team of 170 dedicated staff. This role is pivotal in managing the City’s environmental conservation efforts, including stewardship of extensive and valuable conservation estate, significant biodiversity programs, community engagement, catchment management, pest and biosecurity control and strategic policy implementation.
Qualifications, Skills, and Attributes:
Extensive leadership experience in both proven and contemporary conservation and environmental management, with strong knowledge of relevant legislation and its application in local government.
Proven expertise in catchment management and biosecurity, with a successful track record in strategic planning, resource allocation and legislative compliance.
Demonstrated ability to build and lead high-performing, multidisciplinary teams, fostering collaboration and achieving organisational goals.
Strong strategic thinking and problem-solving skills, with the capability to implement conservation initiatives aligned with the City’s long-term objectives.
Excellent communication and stakeholder engagement skills, with the ability to influence and build partnerships with government bodies, NGOs and community groups.
Relevant tertiary qualifications in Environmental Science, Natural Resources Management or a related field, with additional qualifications in conservation or environmental management highly desirable.
Superior analytical skills and problem-solving capability and outstanding change management and communication skills will be essential to success in this role.
