Attractive salary $170k + super + vehicle + housing
Burke Shire Council is seeking a Director of Engineering to lead the provision of essential services and infrastructure projects for the community, including extensive rectification efforts following record-breaking floods earlier this year.
As the Director of Engineering, you will lead a team of 25 staff in the delivery of road management, general services for towns and rural areas, water and waste services, and the implementation of crucial capital projects. Burke Shire Council value diversity, with over 80% of their 48 staff comprising First Nations people.
In addition to leading the engineering directorate, you will serve as the Deputy CEO, playing a pivotal role in shaping the strategic direction of the council and contributing to key planning and reporting requirements.
Experience and Qualifications:
Demonstrated experience in a similar role that includes strategic and operational engineering responsibilities.
Strong workforce leadership skills.
Financial management of operational and capital budgets.
Demonstrated knowledge of local government civil engineering specifications including project and contract management.
Well-developed communication and stakeholder engagement skills.
Cultural awareness of working with First Nations people is highly regarded.
Bachelor's Degree in Civil Engineering - RPEQ current or easily obtained, highly regarded.

Burke Shire is in far north Queensland on the edge of the mighty Gulf of Carpentaria and bordering the Northern Territory border. It is a six-hour drive to Mt Isa, 2,100km to Darwin and 2,115km to Brisbane. The Shire covers 40,127km2 and is home to approximately 550 residents. The Gangalidda Garawa and Waanyi are the traditional owner groups.
